The Frye Company is the oldest continuously operated shoe company in the United States. Founded in 1863 by John A. Frye, a well-to-do shoemaker from England, and family-run until 1945, Frye products have a long and illustrious history. Frye boots were worn by soldiers on both sides of America's Civil War, soldiers in the Spanish-American war, and by Teddy Roosevelt and his Rough Riders. When home-steading drew adventurous New England families to the West during the mid and late 1800's many of the pioneers wore Frye Boots for the long journey. Today Frye remains true to its roots with its line of heritage boots, but continues to innovate as it introduces chic new handbags, pumps, and sandals to its collection.

Frye Lover

Posted by:  Love Love Love Frye Harness boots (Atlanta, Georgia) Nov 23, 2009
I have wanted a pair of Frye harness boots for a few years now and finally decided to buy a pair. I had my heart set on a black pair of the 15" shaft and ultimately that is what I settled on. On my way to purchasing those boots I realized these came in plum (I am a purple-a-holic). I ordered these cuffed style and the non cuffed style in the 12", but the plum was more burgundy color, which I did not like. This style of Frye runs one size large. I am normally a 9 and ended up with an 8. I have other style Frye's and they run true to size and I wear them in my normal size 9. I have many many pairs of boots in other brands. I realized the craftsmanship of Fyre cannot be beat. I can wear my boots all day long and never get foot fatigue as I do with all my other boots (which I still wear and suffer through anyways).

Investment boots.

I worn these everywhere and every weather. Summer, winter, and everything in between. They work with dresses, skirts, skinny jeans, and boot-but jeans. I love to mix them with dressier items for balance. I get no end of compliments on them.

I own a pair in this natural leather and they were very soft from the beginning but have gotten more so with age. I will say the other leathers vary in their stiffness (the black was unbearably stiff, but Frye seems to have changed their tanning process a bit since). They do need to be broken in and I was advised that your heel should slip a little if the boot fits correctly. I did put an insole in the boot to help absorb shock while walking (the wood heel is unforgiving after three hours on concrete). The shaft is wider than most so you shouldn't have a problem if you have thicker calves. I like the gapping as it makes my legs look thinner and longer.
