The Frye Company is the oldest continuously operated shoe company in the United States. Founded in 1863 by John A. Frye, a well-to-do shoemaker from England, and family-run until 1945, Frye products have a long and illustrious history. Frye boots were worn by soldiers on both sides of America's Civil War, soldiers in the Spanish-American war, and by Teddy Roosevelt and his Rough Riders. When home-steading drew adventurous New England families to the West during the mid and late 1800's many of the pioneers wore Frye Boots for the long journey. Today Frye remains true to its roots with its line of heritage boots, but continues to innovate as it introduces chic new handbags, pumps, and sandals to its collection.

love these!

Posted by:  amyp53 (New Jersey) Nov 25, 2009
I had been contemplating buying these boots for quite a while, and I'm so glad I did! The leather is very nice, a little stiff, but it will definitely soften up soon. I am tall (5'10'') so I like how the heel is low and the rounded toe makes my feet look small (unlike the square toe boots). The arch support is very comfy, and I have plenty of room for thicker socks or to tuck jeans into them. Also the bottom is very sturdy and will be good for nasty weather. I'm sure I'll be loving these boots for years!

I love the shoes

It is perfect although the ankle part is a bit tight. It has perfect look with any short dress! I love it.

Loved the look--couldn't put it on

I literally could not get my foot into the boot! I have other Fryes and know my size but these were so stiff and narrow there was no way to try them! Too bad- I've always liked this style.

They look good, but man are they hard to get into!

Posted by:  ZRex (Boston) Nov 7, 2009
I love these boots and they look great with jeans and with dresses and skirts, but they are SUCH a pain to get on. When I got them, I tried to put them on with regular socks and jeans and i tweaked my back!

They've been getting easier to put on, but they are still super tight on the top of my foot (I have really high arches and a bony top of my foot). I'm hoping that the more I wear them, the more they will stretch out, but the top of my foot will start to hurt so bad that I can't wear them two days in a row! I think this is specific to me, though, because a friend of mine with the same shoe size tried them on and they slipped right on with no problems.

I'm complaining a LOT, but I do love these boots. I get tons of compliments on them, and the arch support is awesome! This is a big compliment coming from me because I have really high arches and no shoe ever has enough arch support for me.

Hope this helps!

Nice looking boot

I love these boots...I wear them often. My only complaint is the seams meet underneath where the buckle is and after several hours wearing them it can really rub the top of my foot. But other than that they really are comfy and a good throw on pair of boots.

Amazing boots!

My husband bought those boots for me. Amazing present!!! I got my size, 7 1/2, and they are perfect with normal socks but there is space for nice winter thick socks too. Anyway, they run true to size to me. Since the first day, I wore them with no problems or pains, very comfortable, easy to pull on and off. They are short so they are perfect no matter what type of calf you have. If you are looking for a non elegant everyday boots with a lot of "american spirit" buy them, they are perfect with leggings, trousers, skirt.. They look very strong too, I am sure they will last forever. They will be not my last pair of Frye, I love this brand now! Endless provided an amazing service!

Fantastic High Quality Boots

Posted by:  distinct (Everywhere) Nov 1, 2009
I adore these Frye boots. Very high quality leather. I cried a little when they started creasing but they look amazing. My one qualm is that I wish they hit me a little higher(I am 5'8'' and they are a little lower than mid calf. Mid calf would have been perfect). Nevertheless, overall good purchase and worth the money.

So cool ,want another pair!

I bought these boots to wear on the job because I'm a licensed plumber and thought they would spiff up my uniform. Well I love them so much that I eventually will get another pair for play. They are sturdy, comfortable and really cool.

best. boots. ever.

100+ degree days in LA and I've stil been wearing them nonstop since I got them. They work with everything from short shorts and bubble skirts to cocktail dresses. Other reviews had mentioned difficulty getting them on or tightness on the shaft but I didn't experienced either. Seriously...if you're thinking about these boots, just spend the money. They're well worth it.

I like it.

I like this style, and the leather feel so good.
I will wear it with jeans, shorts.

nice but very stiff

Posted by:  H. Hwang (CA) Jul 18, 2009
they look very nice just what I wanted. however it takes forever to break in. very stiff and just under the ankle bones where the boot has a little fold,,gets rubbed and irritate my skin. lots of bandages I had to go thru. its been 3 weeks it just started getting better. but loved the boots.

Frye still solid

Posted by:  Limpedgimpy Jun 23, 2009
They took about four hours of walking to break in and I got some pretty good blisters on my heel during that, but since then they've been great. I also had to break them in quickly-- I bet if you just wore them around an hour or two a day you could do it without blisters.

My feet stay dry in hot, wet weather (I waterproofed them). And now that it's summer, they're part of my cut-offs/tie belt/white tee summer uniform.

I'm 5'2, and the shaft of these comes up a little lower than the standard Frye campus boot does, or wellies, so if you're not used to it they might look like they're an awkward length, but once they scrunched down a little from wearing, and crouching, and climbing and running and all the things I do in my boots, they look more like something I might wear with a sundress instead of the standard cowboy boots.

Love the style, but ultimately not a keeper

Super cute and comfortable - everything you would expect from Frye. I found the shaft to be just a tad snug, especially since I wanted to tuck jeans into them (I'm 5'5, 125 lb. and don't have large calves). I think that if I would have kept them the leather would have ultimately stretched and the fit would have been great, but I ended up deciding to go with Frye's Veronica Slouch instead, and I think I'm going to get the Engineer in the 8R.

Great boots

These are great boots! I originally ordered size 10, which I very consistently wear, sometimes 10.5 even, but I had to order these in a 9.5. I would recommend ordering a 1/2 size smaller then what you typically wear.

The size is tough

Posted by:  Bootgirl (Roanoke, VA USA) Jan 23, 2009
I love the look of these boots and think they will be fine with a thicker pair of socks, however, I also planned on wearing these with leggings and dresses. The size is tough to get right. I am a 10. I followed the advice of other reviewers who said the boots ran true to size. No they don't, in fact, I think a 1/2 size smaller would be better. Although they are a little stiff and tough to pull on, once on, I have so much extra room my heel slides up and down. I don't know what to do, I think a smaller size will make it impossible to pull on.

I Love These Boots!

These boots are very versatile and super cute. The dark oiled leather goes great with just about everything. The only issue I have with them is that if I wear them without tall socks, the little piece of leather underneath the buckle chafes against my skin, or if I wear them with tights it pills the tights. Otherwise they are incredibly comfortable and I wear them all the time.

very cute

I love these boots I am however going to have to get use to them. They are pretty stiff but hopeful they will give with time like the other review stated. They run about a half size small. I plan on having these boots for many years to come.

Best Pair of Boots Ever

GREAT BOOTS!!!!!!
I am writing this review, because the posted review helped me with this purchase. True fit, instant comfort, classic style. Leather slightly stiff, but softens within the first hour of wear. Expect to have this pair of boots for years. Also, 5 Stars to Endless.com, for next day service.

So cute

Posted by:  hackerm (St Charles, IL United States) Oct 8, 2008
Versatile look. I have larger than normal calves and these fit perfectly with room to spare. They fit better with thin socks. The footbed itself is very comfortable, but I think the leather that hits between the ankle and my foot needs to break in a bit. I have a feeling over a few wearings, these might be the most comfortable pair of boots I'll own. So cute, even though I could probably knock down a building if I kicked it.
