Steve Madden, the company, was founded by Steve Madden, the man, in 1990 in Brooklyn, where he started out making trend-advancing shoes one pair at a time. It was not long after that the Steve Madden focus on "now-ness" earned rave reviews from young female fans mad for the funky, chic, and yet competitively priced footwear it produced. The company popularized the "dressy sneaker," and continues to man the forefront of trends.

I bought this bootie in the cognac color. Right when I opened the box I thought 'ick'! The leather is very very low quality, and you can really tell. The cognac color is grayed out, and not a rich cognac which makes it look like even cheaper - they seriously look like fake leather. I always wear a size 10 and I have a narrow foot. When I put this on, my little toes were rubbing up against the sides which made the boot really uncomfortable. From the top view, the toe looks like a slipper. These are just bad over all, which is such a bummer because all the straps & buckles around the back are such a cute design feature. These can't be returned fast enough.

I could smell the leather before even opening the box! Leather is soft (not buttery but would not expect that at this price point) and the buckles are actually adjustable not decorative only. Super cute boot with just enough extra to give them a little sass. Nice heel height. Boots will pair well with almost anything; jeans, crops, dresses or skirts. A tad narrow, but I have found almost all Steve Maddens to be so...if concerned order half size up. I would also go up if planning on heavy socks. I'm happy with my normal size.
