the shaft fits well and accommodates jeans and/or thicker leggings. Is reasonably comfortable for day-long wear. I would purchase these again.
Still not the answer for petitie, wide calves
I'm 5'2 with calves that are apparently wider than most since I can never seem to zip up "normal" boots. Even if I can zip them - like with stetch boots - my calves aren't long enough to allow the boot to have a nice, long, tight, sleek-looking shaft like the boots you see on models in catalogs or Bond Girls. So I figured a wide calf, shorter length might be my answer. Unfortunately not with this boot. First, it surprised me how wide the shaft actually is. I have 16" calves (I think this boot advertises 15" which was ok with me because I wanted them kinda tight). But they zip right up with no tigthness whatsoever. At first I was delighted, but then the lack of tightness created the same problem I have even with "normal" length boots: bunching up at the ankle. The "mid-calf" length made no difference here. Now instead of a boot that reaches just below my knee and bunches at the ankle, it's a boot that reaches the middle of my calf - and bunches at the ankle. If I'm gonna get bunching either way, I'd rather go with the taller boot which is way more flattering on a short girl (gives the appearance of heighth).
If that wasn't bad enough, these boots are SLIPPERY! The heel is like a (short) unstable stilleto and it does not offer any traction whatsover. I practically bit it in the middle of a busy restaurant, just to name one incident from the three times I've worn them. To top that off, the first time I zipped off the left boot, the zipper-pull completely disentigrated to the point where it can't be replaced. I would've returned them, but the bottoms were scuffed already - just from wearing them on my floors (it's that zero traction).
Anyway, I kept them because I got too lazy to return them - and I'll still wear them - but I would not have bought them had I tried them on in the store. The only positive thing I have to say is that the leather is nice and the buckles are kinda cute.
