The Frye Company is the oldest continuously operated shoe company in the United States. Founded in 1863 by John A. Frye, a well-to-do shoemaker from England, and family-run until 1945, Frye products have a long and illustrious history. Frye boots were worn by soldiers on both sides of America's Civil War, soldiers in the Spanish-American war, and by Teddy Roosevelt and his Rough Riders. When home-steading drew adventurous New England families to the West during the mid and late 1800's many of the pioneers wore Frye Boots for the long journey. Today Frye remains true to its roots with its line of heritage boots, but continues to innovate as it introduces chic new handbags, pumps, and sandals to its collection.

My favorite boots-Great for Wide Calves

Posted by:  Chanel_Lover (Nashville) Dec 12, 2009
These boots are just what I was looking for. The boot shaft is a little wider than most which is why they are perfect for me. They are easy to get on and off. I can't wait to buy another pair...

A great pair of boots

Posted by:  Alyssa (charlotte,nc) Nov 19, 2009
I recently purchased these boots. They are the first pair of Frye boots I have ever bought. I purposely bought them not only because they look great but because of the wide calf circumference. I have athletic calves and can't seem to ever find a pair that will fit. These fit great! I admit that for someone with thin calves these may not be the boots for you. Be forewarned the brown is a very dark brown, almost bordering on black. Overall- the craftmanship on these boots is stellar and I have a feeling I'll be wearing these for a long time!

Not in love ...

Posted by:  Meg (NYC) Nov 16, 2009
I recently purchased this boot and quickly returned it. I love the Frye brand, but this boot did not live up to my expectations. The shaft made my calves look very wide, but my ankles very skinny-- I have athletic legs, but not overly large calves. The fit was not bad, though. You should order a half size down although there might be still be some slight heel slippage, which I have found with all Frye shoes. Overall, the boot is very appealing to eye, but not very flattering. Note: I saw this boot on another woman who was much slimmer (all around) than me and it made her legs look awkward as well, which confirmed my opinion.

Worth the investment!!!

I was looking for one pair of riding boots that could serve every purpose - even the black or brown dilemma. These boots are perfect in every sense. I got the dark brown and it is very dark - dark enough to substitute as a black boot, most of the time. I get compliments on these boots, from women and men, everywhere I go! They are worth the somewhat steep price b/c the leather and color are amazing (if you've ever owned a pair of Frye's you know what I mean), they are a perfect design, and they are suprisingly comfortable for all day wear (even being on your feet for hours). I'm 5'4" and they come up to just below the knee on me and have enough room to tuck jeans in to. You will not regret spending the $ on these boots - they are the best riding boots out there!!!

close to perfect boot

i love these boots! the leather is amazingly supple and rich, the height is just right (i'm almost 5'10"), the width is good for me (i have wide feet, so some may find it wide i suppose). overall i'm very happy with my purchase. its a plurge, but i', even considering a second pair in brown. i have high arches and i put moderate for arch support, but i really am not sure since arch support is rarely an issue for me.

Great Quality Boot

Posted by:  Mesaprincess13 (Upstate NY) Oct 15, 2009
I just ordered these boots. I did much research on this style boot and I'm glad I spent the extra $ - it shows. Shaft is roomy - if you looking for a slim look - this is not the boot (unless your calves are big). This is a real quality, wardrobe staple. The leather around the foot/heal need a bit of breaking in (stiff)...but that's typical of Frye. I purchased black -but I can see that the brown would have been just as nice (if not better!). I'm a true size 7.5 and as with all Frye's I own - I ordered a size 7. Boot comes right to the bottom of my knee (I'm 5'4). Good luck! Great boot:)

Don't purchase if you have larger feet

Posted by:  AshleyH Oct 14, 2009
I wear a size 9 1/2 or 10 depending on the brand, and bought these because of all the positive reviews. I love Frye boots because they last forever, but this particular style makes your feet look ENORMOUS if you have any size larger than an 8. Better off buying a Dolce Vita boot if you aren't looking for your feet to look like skis.

Great for big calves!

Posted by:  SarahDSeattle (Seattle,WA) Oct 8, 2009
I read many reviews for these boots saying the calf was too big. I could see how it would be large for someone shorter or with small calves. I usually have a difficult time finding boots because of my large calves(16" circumference)These boots fit! The great thing about them is the leather will stretch if need be. The boots maybe seem expensive but they are well worth it!! They will last for a long time! A classic pair of black boots.

Pretty Great!

Posted by:  UIOWA (Iowa) Oct 3, 2009
These boots are very high quality and expensive looking, of course, and I have very few bad things to say about them. They are the closest I've come to finding that "perfect" boot, so I wouldn't hesitate to buy.

The shafts ARE big, but that makes them easier to get in and out of--however, if you're looking for something really sleek, these might not be it. I have a sz 9 and it's a little roomy for me in the toes and such, but not too terrible.

I got the Veronica Slouch first then exchanged for these--they are much sleeker!! I have the dark brown and it IS DARK, so it looks really nice.

Not for Petite Girls

Posted by:  Austin Mama Sep 28, 2009
I am so bummed - I bought this and love them, but have to return them because the shaft is about an inch too tall for my short legs (I'm 5'3"). The leather is beautiful and the color is great. I was also a little bit puzzled when I saw the "Made in Mexico" stamp as I thought they were made in the USA (I should have done more research - I just thought they were so pricey because they were American made). Oh well, they still look really nice and will make another girl very happy:)

Fantabulous!!!

these boots are AWESOME!! They are classic and perfect.. I am petite and they fit perfect and look even better on. I can not find one thing wrong with these boots. Don't be swayed by any negative comments as they truly are fabulous. You will definitely love them. They are worth every penny!

beautiful!

Posted by:  Tanya C. Mysko (Boston, MA United States) Aug 8, 2009
I LOVE this boot! I haven't worn them yet but they will look great with skirts and jeans.

On me, I guess I have small calves and ankles, so it is a little slouchy and not as tight as a fit, but I like the look nonetheless. This is my second pair of Frye boots and the quality is outstanding. I will keep these forever!

I felt that the sizing was off - as I mentioned, the shaft wasn't tight and the foot size itself was a little big for me. I'm typically a 7.5 and can sometimes be an 8, but I had to go down to a 7.

And as other reviews mention, you do slide around in the heel - this is intentional, but all you need is a heel insert and you'll be all set. Also, scuff up the soles a bit - they are slippery at first.

Fabulous Find!

Posted by:  Michelle (Indianapolis, IN) Apr 27, 2009
After reading multiple reviews on a number of different Frye styles I settled on the Paige...and I couldn't be happier. I am so glad I went with my gut because these boots are FABULOUS. The leather is gorgeous, the style is spot on and already these boots have become a staple in my wardrobe! Such a great find...I am even considering purchasing them in Brown! Love, love, love them! (One minor drawback if your feet swell at all during the day they are a bit tough to take off. I would also suggest wearing an extra pair of socks the week you are breaking them in.)

Timeless Elegance

Posted by:  Brooklyn Girl (New York City) Feb 11, 2009
This is my second try with Frye and a success. The brown is a rich dark chocolate and the styling very elegant. The front flap doesn't make my calf look large from front or side. I like that it comes up to the knee as I plan to wear it with skirts that hit at the knee or below and dark tights. It does not have any arch support. I think I might get inserts. The on and off is simple, but one boot is clearly bigger than the other as I had a another person try it on as well. No matter, as they will stretch to my own foot. What is impressive is the leather lining and craftmanship. Clearly a product Frye is proud of and it is backed up by their work. The campus pair I returned made my ankles look huge yet there were SUPER comfortable. The Paige Riding boot is much more elegant (if you want that look) but still casual. I don't recommend wearing with pants OVER the boot as the styling WOW factor is the whole boot, not the foot alone. These and the Campus are made in Mexico.

Not very flattering...

Posted by:  S. Paetzel (LI, NY United States) Sep 29, 2008
These boots are beautiful, but I'm not crazy about the flap detail on the front. I think it makes the calf look wide/fat- especially with jeans tucked in. Too bad- I really wanted them to work!

Gorgeous Frye Riding Boot

Posted by:  Meg (Austin, TX) Jul 25, 2008
These boots are simply stunning! Chic, sophisticated, riding boot style that will always be cool. The dark brown is extremely rich and dark, more of a black-brown. The leather is smooth and soft and I was able to get in and out of these fairly easily. I had read elsewhere that these were great for the more athletic-calved of us, and it is so true. The circumference is a bit bigger than what endless.com has listed (it's more like 15.5 - 16ish), and these fit my muscular calves well. I've had issues fitting my calves in the past, so if you are in the same boat, these might be the boots for you!
