Kids' Shoes
FAQ:
Buying shoes online is difficult when my child can't try them on. What's the best way to ensure I'm getting the right size?
We carry a huge selection of brands and styles, some of which vary slightly in their sizing. If we know a shoe tends to run large or small, we'll add that information to the product copy. Most importantly, we rely on our customers to share their own experiences by rating the fit. Look for customer ratings on all product detail pages below the description.
If the style you are considering is a brand-new item that has not yet been reviewed, we suggest following our fit tips.
Tips for Getting the Right Fit
- Avoid buying shoes for your child that are too big. Incorrectly sized footwear can damage feet.
- Have your child walk around in the shoes inside on a carpeted surface. The shoe should bend where the foot naturally bends.
- Have your child wiggle their toes. There should be enough room in the toe box to wiggle, but not so much that the heel slips.
- If your child is between sizes, a general rule is to order up to the next half size.
- If your child has a narrow foot and the shoe isn't offered in a narrow width, you may want to go down a half size.
- If your child has a wider foot and the shoe isn't offered in a wider width, you may want to go a half size up to give the ball of the foot and the toes more space.
- It's normal for one foot to be larger than the other; fit against the larger foot.
- Have your child try on the shoes indoors on a carpeted surface--this will protect the shoes in case you need to return or exchange them.
If you are familiar with the brand, order the same size your child usually wears in that brand--the sizes displayed on our site are from the manufacturers.
How do I measure my child's foot?
If you are unsure about your child's shoe size, follow these instructions to measure your child's foot:
- On a piece of paper, draw a straight line that is longer than your child's foot.
- Have your child stand on the paper with the line centered beneath their foot. The line should run under the longest toe and the heel.
- Mark where the back of the heel and the tip of the longest toe meet the line. Repeat for the other foot.
- Measure the distance between the heel and toe marks. Use the measurements from the larger of the two feet with the size chart below to determine your child's shoe size.
